Inspiring and stimulating learning spaces are so important to a child's development. Time after time we have seen tired portacabin classrooms which lack natural light. Should we not be more ambitious in the design of the buildings that shape our futures?
Here, the challenges lay in rethinking the previous off-the-shelf portacabin design to create a fun and inspiring classroom for the children. We also needed to design a sustainable building that could be constructed quickly to reduce the time that the playground was out of action.
We created a fun and engaging space for both the children and adults. The staff are excited about the individual wooden storage boxes to take care of all of those muddy shoes and coats while the children love to run their hands along the natural, tactile timber cladding and sit side-by-side in the window seat to watch the happenings in the sensory garden beyond.
