We love working on projects where we get to creatively reimagine existing buildings to suit an entirely new use. We worked closely with our forward-thinking client to turn this tired and unused office building into a vibrant, light and bright nursery to serve the local community. The building needed significant remodelling to create open-plan spaces to allow the nursery to function and maximise the usable floor area. We needed to think carefully about how these spaces relate to one another alongside the operational requirements of a nursery building.
We added a large extension to the rear alongside a timber-clad canopy to allow for outside play, even in poor weather. The garden was turned into a children’s play space, and the building becomes the backdrop to their experience of the nursery. The design added timber cladding and colourful circular windows to the front stairwell and now this once tired office building is filled with the sounds of children at play.
