Tile House

Tile House was empty when we began working with this wonderful family. The house was frozen in time as the family had lived abroad for a number of years following work and careers. Children were now teenagers, and the family had a desire to return so the teenagers could head off to university. The spaces we were asked to create would become the backdrop to the next chapter of family life.

The first thing we noticed was the entrance to the house was on the wrong side of the house and none of the spaces addressed the amazing garden. We were tasked with resolving the functional issues in the house, adding a bedroom and en-suite, creating an open-plan family space that made the most of the garden and ensuring the house’s charm and character were complemented in the process.

The finished project creates a contemporary extension to the main house with a sympathetic nod to the original house. The new open-plan kitchen, dining and snug spaces are all connected to one another, and the rhythmic feature oak timber doors and windows seamlessly connect the inside spaces to the stunning landscaped garden. The space allows for moments of delight all year round, from glimpses of the south facing courtyard garden to the late summer sun flooding the living space with a golden glow. Most importantly, the project fulfils the brief of creating a fit-for-purpose home for the next chapter for this family.
