Double-Height House

The original house on the site is almost unrecognisable now. It was a tired 60s bungalow with a converted roof space and disconnected downstairs living spaces. The good news was the site had the most amazing south facing garden and lots of space to the side and rear of the house to extend into. The clients were super ambitious, and we needed to work with them to find a way to significantly increase the size of the house. The aim was to create a unique, functional family home that will become their forever home.

The challenge was to find a way of extending the home and linking the old bungalow to make the most of the site and maximise the available space for the house. We were able to add an L-shaped, two storey side extension to the existing house and introduce a double-height entrance hall with mezzanine. We added four additional bedrooms, bathrooms, en-suites and storage while also linking with the existing converted loft space.

The house now has an effortless flow about it which stems from the double-height entrance hall. Daylight streams into the entrance hall as sounds of the piano carry into the open-plan kitchen, dining and living spaces and the garden beyond. The spaces have been beautifully finished by interior designers 9 Stories and the house is now a unique, forever family home.
